  1. This ticket is for domestic and international visitors, not local Tokyo residents, so there are some restrictions on where it's sold.

The condition that you mentioned is only applied at one location. You don't need to be a shinkansen passenger to buy this ticket at other locations.

Other locations may have other conditions that are listed on the official page. For example, at travel agencies the ticket is only sold together with other travel products (transportation, accommodation, travel packages, etc.) for Tokyo.

Hi I was looking for ways to buy this 72Hrs ticket and stumbled upon this forum.  I have question .. is there a special prerequisites for buying this ticket?

As I read in the official page this is written.

I hope I misunderstand the written condition above, because this is a great deal :P

  2. Hi Lena

The first train from Hakodate to New Chitose Airport departs at 6:10 am and arrives at the airport at 9:27 am (with a connection at Minami-Chitose).
This gives you one hour before your flight. If you are departing on a domestic flight it may be enough, but it's a bit tight.

You may want to consider going to the airport the night before and staying at the Airport Terminal Hotel.

  3. To get to Sapporo from Tokyo you will need to take a shinkansen train from Tokyo to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto and connect there to another train to Sapporo.

You can find the details here: http://www.sapporostation.com/hokkaido-shinkansen-traveling-from-tokyo-to-sapporo/

New Year's holidays are a busy travel time in Japan. It may be a good idea to reserve your train tickets as soon as you arrive in Japan. With the Japan Rail Pass you don't need to pay anything extra but you do need to make reservations in advance at any JR ticket office.

  4. Hi Theresa,

Unfortunately, there are no hotels around Shin Hakodate Hokuto Station at the moment. There is one under construction.

The last shinkansen train departs Tokyo at 19:20 and arrives at Shin Hakodate Hokuto at 23:33. You can then take a Hakodate Liner train to Hakodate, it only takes 20 minutes to get there. The last Hakodate Liner departs from Shin Hakodate Hokuto 23:46.

There are many hotels to choose from near Hakodate station. http://www.hakodatestation.com/hotels-near-hakodate-station/

The next morning you can catch a direct train from Hakodate to Sapporo.

  6. Here is a list of places you can buy a Tokyo Subway 72 hours ticket:

    http://www.tokyometro.jp/en/ticket/value/travel/index.html#anc02

This ticket is for domestic and international visitors, not local Tokyo residents, so there are some restrictions on where it's sold.

For you it will probably be easiest to buy the ticket at one of the travel agencies at Kyoto station.  Nippon Travel Agency is located just outside Kyoto Station’s north central ticket gates. You can find a photo at the end of this page: http://www.kyotostation.com/atm-cash-machines-currency-exchange-at-kyoto-station/

  7. Hi Pam. The Tokyo Subway ticket will be valid on MOTO-YAWATA to MIZUE part, but not the Keisei line from the airport. Unless you plan to ride the subway a lot in the following two days it may be a better idea to get an IC card (like PASMO or Suica) at the airport. This card can be used on all lines, including Keisei and subways.

    http://www.japanstation.com/japans-prepaid-transportation-cards-ic-cards/

You can familiarize yourself with the walk from KEISEI-YAWATA to MOTO-YAWATA on Google Maps. Most Japanese cities have good Google Street View coverage.

  8. Hi Angie, I moved your question into a separate topic.

Going from Hakodate to Aomori you will need to take a regular train from Hakodate to Shin-Hakodate Hokuto (about 20 min) and then change to shinkansen train to Shin-Aomori.

From Shin-Aomori you can take a taxi to your destination or a local train to Aomori station. It's only 4km from Shin-Aomori to Aomori station.

  9. You are generally allowed to take a bicycle on a train provided it's disassembled (wheels removed) and packed in a bag. You shouldn't have a problem taking a packed bike on the airport train as it has special luggage space.

    Quote

JR rules for luggage state there shall be no charge for:
Bicycles for use in cycling or sporting events if the bicycle is disassembled and placed in a bicycle carrying bag, or if the bicycle is a folding bicycle that has been folded and placed in a bicycle carrying bag.

  10. The best way to travel from Kyoto directly to Kansai airport is the Haruka Limited Express train.

On March 8th Haruka Limited Express operates at the following times that may be convenient for you:

LTD. EXP HARUKA 25 - Depart Kyoto 13:15 - Arrive Kansai Airport 14:34

LTD. EXP HARUKA 27 - Depart Kyoto 14:15 - Arrive Kansai Airport 15:34

The seats cannot be reserved online, but there shouldn't be a problem buying reserved seats the day before or on the day of travel.

For more details about Haruka Limited Express take a look at our Kyoto - Kansai Airport transport article: http://www.kyotostation.com/traveling-between-kyoto-and-kansai-international-airport/

  11. Yes, you can use your Suica card or any other IC card to pay the train fare from Sapporo to Otaru. The fare is 640 yen one way.

Sapporo to Otaru line is served by local train with all non-reserved seats and by Rapid Airport train with reserved and non-reserved seats.

It's not necessary to get a reserved seat on this route as the trains are rarely full and have plenty of non-reserved seats.

  12. The largest coin lockers in Kyoto Station measure 1200×355×575(mm) and cost 700 yen for one day's use. If this is not big enough for your luggage you can store luggage in the station Baggage Room which is located directly under the north central ticket gates (B1). These cost 420 yen per item for one day's storage. See our article on Lockers & Luggage Storage for details: http://www.kyotostation.com/kyoto-station-lockers-luggage-storage/
