How to get to Takayama from Osaka and then from Takayama back to Kyoto

Recommended Posts

Actually I am quite confuse with those passes and railway in Japan from access to cities by cities.

I really have no idea how to start my itinerary if I am still stuck at which pass suppose to use or even which train ...

Firstly, I wish to know the cheapest way from Osaka get into Takayama, and then from Takayama back to Kyoto.

Secondly, I wish to know what is most convenience or cheapest way to travel around Osaka city, Kyoto and Kobe with those transportation or passes ??

I will go with one of my kids and my husband. Just worried kids can't easily follow us to looking or searching around when we might get lost in the town ?

Appreciated if I could get reply to the above as soonest possible.

Thanks,

Macy

There is one daily direct service from Osaka to Takayama. You can find more details here: https://www.osakastation.com/limited-express-hida-gifu-gero-takayama/

The alternative is to take Shinkansen from Osaka to Nagoya and take an express train from there: https://www.nagoyastation.com/the-limited-express-hida-for-gifu-gero-takayama-toyama/

For traveling around Osaka, Kyoto and Kobe consider getting a JR Pass that covers all JR lines (including Takayama) or Kansai Thru Pass that covers all private lines in the area.
