ReyRoverJP Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 I'm planning a trip from Kyoto to Nara. Can I use ICOCA card from Kyoto to Nara? Also, what is the best way to get to Nara from Kyoto? Quote
Japan Station Posted September 23, 2023 Posted September 23, 2023 Two train lines connect Kyoto Station with Nara: the JR Nara Line and the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. On the JR Nara Line your can use ICOCA (or any other IC card) on any train. Miyakoji Rapid train is the fastest. On Kintetsu Line you can use an IC card on a local (slow) train. For a faster Limited Express train you will need to buy an additional limited express ticket. The base fare can still be paid by an IC card, but a limited express ticket is also required to board this train. For more information please visit our Traveling from Kyoto Station to Nara article. Elizabeth Green Posted August 19 Posted August 19 Yes, you can use your ICOCA card for the trip from Kyoto to Nara on both the JR Nara Line and the Kintetsu Kyoto Line. The JR Nara Line Rapid Service takes about 45 minutes to reach JR Nara Station, while the Kintetsu Limited Express or Express takes 35-45 minutes to reach Kintetsu Nara Station, which is closer to the main attractions. The Kintetsu Line is often preferred for its proximity to Nara Park, though both options are convenient. You can use your ICOCA card on Kintetsu, but note that there is an additional reserved seat fee if you go by Limited Express. Quote
