I understand it is not totally necessary to purchase tickets ahead of time but I want to use my U.S. based credit card for the transaction. First, will a credit card be accepted? If not, how can I purchase the tickets ahead of time before we leave the U.S. If purchased in advance, will I have to exchange a voucher or something like that, or will I be able to print tickets and receipts at home? Japan Station Posted May 1, 2019 Share Posted May 1, 2019 All major credit cards (including Visa, Mastercard and AmericanExpress) are accepted at JR ticket offices. You can buy Shinkansen tickets a few days in advance at any JR ticket office, not only Shin-Osaka station.
