Maria Fukuda Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 Nozomi trains do not stop at Shin-Fuji Station, so you can’t use a Nozomi to get off there and turn around. To stop at Shin-Fuji, you’ll need to take a Hikari or Kodama train. A round-trip ticket from Tokyo to Shin-Fuji by Hikari/Kodama generally costs around ¥11,000–¥13,000 depending on whether you reserve a seat. If your main priority is simply to see Mt. Fuji, consider the time of day and weather forecast for the best view. Note: Not all Hikari trains stop at Shin-Fuji. Check the schedule when buying a ticket. Make sure to exit and re-enter the ticket gates at Shin-Fuji to activate return tickets. ================== Some alternatives to consider for the best Mount Fuji views: 1. Fujikyu Railway (Fujikyuko Line) to Kawaguchiko • Starting Point: Shinjuku Station (Tokyo) Take the JR Chuo Line from Shinjuku to Otsuki Station (about 1–1.5 hours), then transfer to the Fujikyu Railway headed for Kawaguchiko Station. As the train approaches Kawaguchiko, the views of Mt. Fuji get progressively clearer. Kawaguchiko is one of the Fuji Five Lakes, providing postcard-perfect views of Mt. Fuji. Consider taking the Fuji Excursion limited express train, which runs directly from Shinjuku to Kawaguchiko on weekends and holidays (and some weekdays), cutting the need to transfer at Otsuki. 2. Odakyu Romancecar to Hakone Area • Starting Point: Shinjuku Station (Tokyo) Take the Odakyu Romancecar to Hakone-Yumoto Station, then continue via local transport (cable cars, ropeways, and the Hakone Sightseeing Cruise) to vantage points with Mt. Fuji views. While you won’t see Mt. Fuji directly from the train during most of the Romancecar journey, Hakone’s viewpoints, such as Owakudani or Lake Ashi, offer famous panoramas of Mt. Fuji on clear days. The journey is scenic and comfortable, and Hakone is a popular side trip from Tokyo. Quote
