RCS Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Hi— I'm 69-years-old, traveling alone, with one big suitcase. I plan to take the Tokyo Monorail from Shinagawa then change to the Yamanote line for Shibuya Sta. Inside Shibuya Station from the Yamanote platform I need to get to the New South Gate which is walking distance from my hotel. Is this plan feasible? Will it be difficult? Quote
Japan Station Posted November 15 Posted November 15 Hello, Your plan is generally feasible, but I’d like to offer some clarifications and suggestions to make your journey smoother, especially considering you’re traveling alone with a large suitcase. Understanding the Route: 1. Tokyo Monorail from Shinagawa: The Tokyo Monorail does not operate from Shinagawa Station. It runs between Haneda Airport and Hamamatsucho Station. 2. Alternative from Shinagawa: If you’re starting from Shinagawa Station, you can take the JR Yamanote Line directly to Shibuya Station without any transfers. This would simplify your journey significantly. Recommended Route Options: 1. From Haneda Airport via Tokyo Monorail: • Tokyo Monorail: Take it from Haneda Airport to Hamamatsucho Station. • Transfer to JR Yamanote Line: At Hamamatsucho, switch to the Yamanote Line bound for Shibuya/Shinjuku. • Disembark at Shibuya Station. 2. From Haneda Airport via Keikyu Line: • Keikyu Line: Board from Haneda Airport to Shinagawa Station. • Transfer to JR Yamanote Line: At Shinagawa, switch to the Yamanote Line heading towards Shibuya/Shinjuku. • Disembark at Shibuya Station. 3. Direct Airport Limousine Bus: Consider taking an airport limousine bus directly from Haneda Airport to Shibuya or even closer to your hotel, if available. This option eliminates the need to navigate busy train stations with luggage. Navigating Shibuya Station to the New South Gate: • Shibuya Station is one of Tokyo’s largest and can be quite busy and complex to navigate. • There are English signs directing passengers to various exits, including the New South Gate. • Elevators and Escalators are available throughout the station, which will help with your large suitcase. • Directions: After alighting from the Yamanote Line, follow the signs for the New South Gate. Be prepared for some walking, but pathways are well-marked. Additional Tips: • Peak Hours: Try to avoid traveling during rush hours (7-9 AM and 5-7 PM). • Consider Shipping Your Suitcase: You can send your luggage directly from the airport to your hotel using a courier service. This is common in Japan and very reliable. Feel free to ask if you need more detailed information on any part of your trip. Safe travels! 1 Quote
