LTrinh Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Hey guys, I'm planning a trip around Japan and trying to get a sense of how late the trains run. I know the system is super reliable, but I'm not sure what time they usually stop for the night. Does anyone know when the last trains run, especially in the bigger cities like Tokyo or Osaka? I’m hoping to catch some late trains after exploring, but I don’t want to get stranded. Any info would be awesome—thanks! Quote
Maria Fukuda Posted September 8 Posted September 8 Generally, the last trains in Japan stop running around midnight, though this can vary depending on the specific line and city. In major cities like Tokyo and Osaka, some lines may have their final trains departing as late as 12:30 AM, but it’s always best to check the specific schedule for your route. We recommend using apps like Google Maps for the most accurate train times on the day of your travel. Quote
akdrv Posted September 8 Posted September 8 From my experience traveling around Japan, most trains seem to stop around midnight. I learned the hard way once when I missed the last train and had to take a taxi back to my hotel—pretty expensive! If you're planning a late night, definitely keep an eye on the clock or set an alarm to remind yourself to check the train schedule. Quote
ReyRoverJP Posted September 8 Posted September 8 I think most trains wrap up around midnight or so. I’ve been out late in Tokyo, and around 11:30 PM, people started rushing for the last trains. Just be careful if you're out in the suburbs—things shut down earlier out there. But yeah, if you miss it, taxis can get pricey, so maybe look up the times in advance! Quote
