Japan Station Posted March 11, 2019 Posted March 11, 2019 Online reservations from Hakata to Kyoto are not available. You can make reservations at any JR ticket office after your arrival in Japan. Trains on this route run frequently and tickets are usually available on the day of travel. We recommend making reservations a day or two in advance. Quote

Please note that Nozomi is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass. If you do not plan to use the Japan Rail Pass you can take Nozomi all the way to Hakata without any transfers. If you do plan to use the Japan Rail Pass you will need to take Hikari from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka and then transfer to Sakura to continue to Hakata. Transfers can be made in 10 minutes, but we'd recommend 20 to 30 minutes transfer time if you are not familiar with the station layout.
