  1. Hi Terry, There are only two platforms at KIX JR station. One is usually used for Haruka Express and the other for JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service. It is really easy to navigate. Check the platform displays for the next JR Kansai Airport Rapid Service. The platform looks like this: All the Airport Rapid Services go to Kyobashi station.

  3. The Hokutetsu Bus company runs regular highway bus services between Kanazawa Station and Shirakawa-go. There are also services to Sugunuma in Gokayama from March to November.   11. The tickets are not sold on the train. You may be able to pay at the destination if you retain your JR ticket, but we would suggest purchasing a ticket first and taking the next train on IR Ishikawa Railway.

  14. On weekdays the first Nankai Airport Express leaves Namba station at 5:15 am and arrives at Kansai Airport at 5:58 am. On weekends the first Nankai Airport Express leaves Namba station at 5:10 am and arrives at Kansai Airport at 5:55 am.   15. You can use an ICOCA card on all the services you mentioned, except Limited Express. Limited Express requires additional seat reservation charge. All other services have non-reserved seats. https://www.osakastation.com/traveling-from-osaka-to-nara/
  16. There are some Nozomi shinkansen services that go from Kyoto to Hakata. Please note that Nozomi is not covered by the Japan Rail Pass. If you do not plan to use the Japan Rail Pass you can take Nozomi all the way to Hakata without any transfers. If you do plan to use the Japan Rail Pass you will need to take Hikari from Kyoto to Shin-Osaka and then transfer to Sakura to continue to Hakata. Transfers can be made in 10 minutes, but we'd recommend 20 to 30 minutes transfer time if you are not familiar with the station layout.   17. Hello Susanna, The main ticket office at Kyoto Station is open every day from 5:30-23:00. You can also buy tickets in advance at any JR ticket office in Japan.

  21. Online reservations from Hakata to Kyoto are not available. You can make reservations at any JR ticket office after your arrival in Japan. Trains on this route run frequently and tickets are usually available on the day of travel. We recommend making reservations a day or two in advance.
  22. Nankai Airport Express is a commuter train with seating similar to a subway car. There is no dedicated luggage space, but you will find that a lot of people with luggage take this train. You will have no problem taking your luggage on the Nankai Airport Express. Tickets can be bought at the airport station.   23. Please note that Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku is located near Shinjuku Station, not Shibuya. From Shinagawa Station take the Yamanote line to Shinjuku Station, then follow the signs to the New South Exit.
  24. The Shinkansen trains between Shin-Osaka and Kyoto run every 10-15 minutes. There is no need to book tickets in advance.
